POLITÉCNICO COLOMBIANO JAIME ISAZA CADAVID
El
Politecnico Colombiano Jaime Isaza Cadavid is a Public
University Institution, funded by the departmental government of
Antioquia in 1964.
El
Politecnico has approximately 13,200 students. The main campus
is situated in El Poblado, in Medellín city, and counts on 1,300
educational and 350 administrative staff, in its three academic
centers in other municipalities of the Antioquia´s department.
El
Politecnico
is a national leader in technological education
and at present offers higher education at technological,
technical and academic levels with a range of pregraduate and
postgraduate courses in areas such as Engineering,
Administration, Agrarian Sciences, Audiovisual Communication,
Sport and Recreation. These programs are supplemented by
extension, continued education and informal courses available to
the general public.
El
Politecnico
is currently developing and adapting itself to an
international future, where success will be determined by the
ability of individuals and communities to take advantage of
emerging technologies in relation to their own self-development.
With this objective in mind, since 1997, we have been focusing
all our educational innovations into stimulating the development
of creativity, inventiveness, problem solving and international
competency. These innovations are evidenced in our Informatics
Engineering program and as a continuation of those efforts; we
plan to develop cooperation in local, regional, national and
international environments.
THE
MAIN CAMPUS AND REGIONAL CENTERS
The Director, the Vice-Directors, the Faculties
and administrative services are at the main campus in El Poblado
- Medellín.
The main campus is 54,400 square metres, 23,482
of them built, with 13 blocks comprising 104 classrooms, 1
Automatic Controls laboratory, 13 rooms micros, the Library
Thomás Carrasquilla, the Auditory Fernando Gómez Martínez and
12,250 square metres of sports settings, comprising a covered
theater, pool, sports plate, football pitch, softball, tennis,
volleyball, micro-football, handball and basketball courts.
Politecnico´s research centre is located in Bello’s
municipality, with its Physics, Genetic and Biotechnology
laboratories; Floors and Vegetable Weavings; Biology and
Microbiology; Chemical, Biochemical and Nutrition; Micros;
Security and Employment Hygiene; Surveying; Anatomy; Industrial;
Electricity; Electronic; Floors, Flooring and Concrete;
Irrigations and Agricultural Machinery. There are also four
laboratories destined to the Researches Groups.
REGIONAL CENTERS
Following Politecnico´s decentralization policy,
we count with academic centers in other municipalities in
Antioquia’s department.
REGIONAL – ORIENTE
Located in Rionegro’s municipality, the centre has an extension
of 16,000 square metres, with 2,000 metres built. It is the
second largest centre in terms of infrastructure, physical space
and laboratories. Since 1973 this centre has offered programs
of higher education as a strategy of pioneering educational
decentralization in Antioquia.
REGIONAL - BAJO CAUCA
Located in Caucasia´s municipality, the centre has an extension
of 6,237 square metres, with 2,035 square metres built. The
centre has been offering higher education for the past ten
years, being one of the last centres founded when the process of
decentralization began.
REGIONAL – URABÁ
Located in Apartadó, with 2,200 square metres built, it is the
Politecnico´s largest regional centre. It was the second that
was founded as part of decentralization program of higher
education that was established 19 years ago.

RESEARCH
Every Politécnico’s research has the goal of
generating and verifying knowledge that will further the
development of technologies with the purpose of solving the
problems of our region and country.
El
Politécnico counts with a System of Science and Technology that
has the mission of knowledge production through research, by
means of action groups. Actually, El Politécnico has 57
researches under way, with 800 students and 63 teachers. Since
2004 El Politécnico has counted with the Cooperation of Student
Research, an organization that has the purpose of stimulating
scientific and technological work, to recognize the best’s
researches works made by El Politécnico students.
